Grapevine and Burlap Wreath

Standard

I love Make-It Monday!  This GENIUS tutorial was provided by Santeen Creations….and now I have three Christmas gifts on the to-make list.  😉

There is a practical side to me, the part that says 1 wreath to hang for most of the year and decorate as the holidays come and go is perfect.  Not to mention, storing wreaths takes up space.  I’d rather store the smaller wreath decorations, so here is my solution:  The Twig and Burlap Wreath.

If you have any questions, just ask!

What you will need:

1 grapevine wreath – this one is 18″ and was purchased at Hobby Lobby.
1 package burlap with wire – 2.5″ wide (also purchased at Hobby Lobby – 30 ft roll – don’t worry, you won’t use all of it if you decorate parts only.  To do the entire wreath, I would have an extra roll on hand).
1 Hot Glue Gun (always be careful)
Hot glue sticks
Floral Aluminum Wire
Decorations on alligator clips

This project took me about 20 minutes to do.

To Start:

Put glue on the wreath and put your first edge of burlap down.
Bunch your burlap in this pattern.
Remember to glue the base of each bunch down to the wreath.  Continue this for as far as you want, you could even do then entire wreath if you want.  Glue the end down when finished.
Cut a piece of aluminum wire (mine is dark green) and tie it to the top of the back of the wreath.
That’s it!  Your done!
As I do make bows and accessories, I made a couple St. Patrick’s Day Themed items, put them on alligator clips and clipped them on to the burlap bunch  The decorations are easy to remove, easy to store and the wreath is easy to redecorate for any season!

Make-It Monday: Paper Seed Bomb

Standard

DIY Paper Seed Bomb

This Earth Day I saw a lovely tutorial for seeded paper bombs and thought, I need to make that ASAP!

About 3 months later, I got it done.  Well, my son and I got it done. After all a craft this messy and free form should really be shared with the 4 year old in your life!

Step 1: Shred paper and add to a bowl of water

Step 2: squish, swirl, mix paper with water until it gets mushy.

Step 3: Pour paper into a mesh strainer and press out extra liquid.

Step 4: Press paper into a cookie cutter on top of a decent stack of paper towels.  Add Seeds.

Step 5: Gently pull seeded paper out and place on a paper plate in sun to dry out.

Step 6: Plant into a garden or wrap and give as a gift!

If you have a tutorial to share, visit Promo Junkies of Etsy team (on Etsy, wink) and look for the Make-It Monday thread.

Featured Artist: Heart Smile Farms

Standard

Introducing Tina C. from Heart Smile Farms in Sweet Home, OR.  (Doesn’t that just sound like the happiest place on Earth?!?)  Tina and her husband are collectors of vintage housewares that can be purchased in their Etsy store, HeartSmileFarms.  Read more about their beginnings and inspirations here.

How did you get started on Etsy?
We got married in our barn and had been collecting vintage china for the table settings. I soon become overrun with vintage serving pieces and decided to make them available to others. And the shop just grew from that.

What is your inspiration for your shop?
The name HeartSmile is the name of our Farm which came from a comment I made to my husband one day when I said, you make my heart smile. It kinda stuck. 🙂

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?
kitchen

Oh – so hard to say – but it has to be The Kitchen Magician! I was sitting on the floor of the thrift store when I found it (loving the name) and my husband came around the corner and said “Whatcha got there little lady?” I said, “Well I got me a Kitchen Magician!” and this lady in the aisle started laughing and said we sounded like a fun couple. And it was perfect that this item was my goal sale of #100! It seems like kismet.

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?
I’m kind of weird – but I like to clean.

List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops:

Oh without a doubt, MillStreetVintage – sigh – the clothes are to die for
Mimsytoo- Such a sweet lady.
FooleryToo – my best friend’s shop

How would you describe your work style?
Frenetic! I get all wound up and don’t stop until it is done. I’ve gone 10 hours without eating or drinking and look up and its bed time.

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?
Time travel – aren’t there things you wish you could go back and change? Things we’ve said in the heat of the moment and wish we could take back? Men we married and wish we didn’t ….ahem…

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?
SEO. Holy cripes no matter what you read and how many times you’ve done it, it just takes time to learn the system and make it work for you.

Please list where you can be found (FB, Twitter, etc)
Right now, here and Pinterest. I’m still trying to set up a FB account and I don’t understand Twitter! And when things slow down on the farm, I will start a blog.
