Featured Artist – Scarlett Grace Props

Standard

Meet Savanna Breazeal of Scarlett Grace Props on Etsy.  Read more about her inspiration and process here on Promo Junkies of Etsy and check out her great photo props in her shop!

How did you first get started on Etsy?

I got put on bed rest while I was pregnant with my beautiful daughter. She decided she wanted to meet her family a little too early! I started to crochet headbands and decided..HEY! This would help me be able to stay at home with my daughter! If I could make a little bit of profit from home. My husband and I decided we wanted me home but, you know how it goes! Financially it was going to be difficult. My love for crafting spurred me on even more to try to make a profit out of it. I was really scared to try Etsy out so it took me a little while to decide to do it. I felt intimated and worried people wouldn’t like what I had to offer artistically. I ended up crocheting a really cute headband and decided..”Yeah, I think others might like this!” I soon discovered that I needed to stop worrying about what others think of what I make and make what I love. I joined Etsy and haven’t stopped crafting since.

What is your inspiration for your shop?

My love for headbands and accessories. I always feel too busy to get too dressed up but it is so handy to have really cute headbands or a cute bracelet to add to a boring outfit. I especially realized how hard it was to get “cute” after I had a baby! I probably wear some type of hair accessory everyday because I put it up so much. To be honest, ever since I was a teenager I have always LOVED hair accessories. They never get old for me! I am starting to make baby items as well. My sweet Scarlett Grace inspired me to start making baby items. I love making stuff for her so why not add that in my shop as well?

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

Oh! What a tough question!! How am I suppose to pick?! I love all of them. I would have to say the lace turban headbands, floral bow, and my floral hair ties would be some of my absolute favorites!

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

I love to read my bible, snuggle my daughter, and snuggle my lovely husband. All three of those things are the most important to me!

How would you describe your work style?

Well, sporadic and impulsive. Very random. My shop looks really organized but my brain is always running. Sometimes too much! Ideas are constantly running through my head! I work hard though. I work hard, honestly, and truly. I love creating stuff. When I get a order, I get so excited to make something for somebody! I love custom orders because I love to hear what other ideas there are that I haven’t come up with!

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

Batman! I have always loved the different and more dark picture of him! The best part is he is a superhero HUMAN! I love the mystery.
Next in line would be Ironman.

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

In all honesty, the fact that I can only change my shop name twice! I would like to change again but Ive learned to like being stuck with it. I also wish I knew how much work it is as well.

Featured Artist and Giveaway: ZanyGirlCreations

Standard

We here at PJ recently did an interview with ZanyGirlCreations. Not only are we going to share this awesome interview, but there is a giveaway involved! 1. How’d you get started on Etsy? Jewelry making is something that I’ve always been interested in. When I got the gifts for Christmas to make real jewelry, I started right away. And quickly had a ton of items and a ton of supplies. I love the idea that someone out there is wearing something that I made.

2. What was your inspiration for your shop? My inspiration constantly changes. When I get an idea, I try to sketch it out, but that is a new thing for me. Typically, I just sit down and make the jewelry when I think of it. But I am inspired by ribbon. I have a lot of ribbon items where I make a braid of ribbon or wrap the chain in ribbon. I really like the look the chain gets from that. 3. What’s your favorite shop item and why? https://www.etsy.com/listing/178600995/large-blue-bead-with-cord-and-long I actually made two of this item because I loved it so much. I just think it’s totally unique and I haven’t seen anything like it. 4. How do you unwind when you’re not creating? My jewelry making is my unwinding. It’s soothing to make jewelry. But when I’m not I watch movies, listen to music, or golf. Or bake cupcakes! 5. What’s your favorite kind of cupcake? Do I have to choose just one? I made cupcakes once that tasted like a Cherry Limeade from Sonic. It was delicious.

6. Do you have a secret guilty pleasure? Gilmore Girls. I could probably quote every episode. Except for the last two seasons. They just….were different. 7. If you could choose any one super power, what would it be and why? I would want the power of teleportation. Or maybe control over time. that would be awesome. 8. What would you do if you won the lottery? I want to say that I’ll be responsible and pay off debt, but honestly, I’d probably just spend most of it on supplies to make more jewelry. And organization items for those new supplies.

9. What was the last movie you watched? Was it good? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. And I liked it. I think the first one was better but I still enjoyed it. 10. If you knew what you know now, when you first opened your store, what would you do differently? I’m still incredibly new to etsy. Overall, I’d say that I’m not doing too badly. But everything is a work in progress. Especially the pictures. I’m still learning.   You can find ZanyGirlCreations here: http://www.zanygirlcreations.com/ https://www.facebook.com/zanygirlcreations http://www.pinterest.com/amynmartinez/zanygirl-creations/ https://www.etsy.com/shop/ZanyGirlCreations   Now… for the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Featured Artist: Haruaki

Standard

Here is Tiffany Key from Fernandina Beach, FL.  She creates original modern resin jewelry in her Etsy shop Haruaki.  Read more about her here on Promo Junkies of Etsy.

How did you get started on Etsy?

I first started with a handmade baby clothes and Japanese fabric shop called Gu Choki Pa. I decided to take a break from textiles and try out a medium my artist husband was working with: resin. Looking at some of his translucent creations, I immediately thought of jewelry.

What is your inspiration for your shop?

The way the light shines in the afternoon through the trees, tidal pools at the beach, hummingbirds, my children’s drawings and enthusiasm for insects, antifreeze drying on pavement. The mundane beauty that goes unnoticed unless you are really paying attention.

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

Merlot Red Umi Ring, Faceted Resin

I really love the Umi ring.  My own style is rather simple so I like a ring that can be worn while working and going about everyday tasks like washing dishes and digging in the garden. It is unobtrusive but when you look at it closely, it is like looking someone straight in the eye.

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

I am busy all the time. Besides for making jewelry, I also write, homeschool my kids, teach English as a second language, and work on my vegetable garden. Finding pockets of time to unwind is not easy but when I do, you can usually find me drinking a beer by a bonfire, floating on the waves at the beach, taking my dog for a walk, or reading a book of short stories under my favorite oak tree.

Just three?

2. www.etsy.com/shop/theaterclouds
3. www.etsy.com/shop/TamarShalem

How would you describe your work style?

I am thorough and persistent now but it has taken a lot of missteps to arrive here.

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

Time travel. I would like to be in more than one place at the same time. I would also appreciate some more time to learn how to do something well (think Bill Murray in Groundhog Day- though not a time traveler per se).

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

Save my money and buy all the supplies I needed first. I would invest a lot in the beginning instead of doing everything piecemeal.

Featured Artist: HeyViv

Standard
We recently did an interview with HeyViv. She is an awesome lady who has this amazing vintage shop with epic vintage finds! We asked the questions, and here are her answers!
1. How did you get started on Etsy?
I started selling vintage clothing at flea markets around New York City, and in 1986 I got my own little store called “Hey Viv ! Vintage Clothing” in Staten Island. I loved the business and the people (and the clothes!) In the 90’s I branched out onto the internet, which grew and grew until I finally took the whole kit and caboodle online in 2000. But I missed the camaraderie of the store until I found Etsy. Here’s a community of nice people who like to chat and who appreciate vintage. Ahhh, I felt like I was home again.
2. What is your inspiration for your shop?
I look for colorful clothing that I would like to wear and items that can stand up to everyday use. I like to collect vintage but I like to wear it too.
3. What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?
My favorite item is always what I just photographed and put in the store. But if I picked right now, I’d say my favorite is this colorful 1970’s Tropical Garden Graphic Print Day Dress.  It has lush flowers and an easy to wear style that I always look for. I want to slip it on, pop a hat on my head and go for a walk in the park.

4. How do you unwind when you’re not creating?
I do performance art. My pieces always involve audience participation and fabulous costumes. I love to make an entrance!
5. List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

Rust Belt Threads:

Arcanium Antiques:

6. How would you describe your work style?
Organized and detailed with a smattering of science fiction and odd movie quotes “Surely you can’t be serious?! I am serious…and don’t call me Shirley”
7. If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?
Time travel. I could get so much done and go clothes shopping in any era.
il_570xN.576574827_ccuh
8. If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

I would definitely advise my younger self to be more careful with money and have a budget. It’s easy to spend money on stock without a plan in mind. Yes, I’ll sell it one day, but in the meantime it’s in storage until I can list it. I would also have taken a photography class to learn how to use my camera.  It took a long time to learn to take good pictures, and I could have shortened the learning curve.
