Meet Lisa Haley from Frankfurt, DE.  Lisa makes wonderful aprons, oven mitts, and other household goods in her Etsy shop TheGoodOleDays.  Read more about Lisa here on Promo Junkies of Etsy:

How did you first get started on Etsy?

I saw a post on my fb wall and followed the link. I was looking for a way to work out of the home and thought this would be a great idea.

What is your inspiration for your shop?

I am an old fashioned, low key kind of gal, so my shop is more on the practical side. Useful, but well-made.

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

I’d have to go with my Ode To Coffee Pillow Cover.  I love coffee, I love buttons, and I really like the way the fabric sparkles.

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

I like to read. Just finished “START”, by Jon Acuff. Next on the list “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook.”

List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

Katwise, Ms Tan Designs, jmorco

How would you describe your work style?

I have ADD work style. I try to be organized and methodical, but the truth is I have a gazillion ideas I’d like to try, and many items in various stages of completion. I’ll work on one thing for a while, then work on something else. I could never have just one item (like aprons, or pillow covers) in my shop.

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

Super-intelligence, because then I could figure out what I need to do to be successful and I could share that knowledge with all my friends.

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

I’m still working on that one. I do know a lot more now than I did, but I feel like I still have a lot more growing to do.

Meet Colleen Weikel of Lancaster, PA.  You find lots of fun jewelry in her Etsy shop whatsingramasdrawers but first read more about her here on Promo Junkies of Etsy:

How did you get started on Etsy?

I got started on Etsy when I retired from work. I had done craft shows for many years and wanted to open an Etsy shop in order to slow down my craft show schedule. Turns out we opened 2 Etsy shops.

What is your inspiration for your shop?

Color and nature inspire me. I try to use my love of color and design in my jewelry. Every bead is in some way connected to nature as is color.

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

My favorite piece right now, and this changes often, is my crocheted choker necklace. I think i love it because I love to crochet and I love the look of beads with the thread.

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

When I’m not creating I read and I write. For me reading is a vacation from everything. And writing is fun because I can use my imagination in different ways. My writing tends to be funny, so I have a great time with it.

List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

Three of my favorite Etsy shops are: Sassy Belle Wares – I love her bracelets. Stamp Blanks – a great shop for anyone who wants to make personalized jewelry. And Black Magic Studio – I love vintage things.

How would you describe your work style?

I guess my work style is eclectic. I like so many different styles that I have to try everything I see. That’s why I have so many beads.

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

I never thought about a super power, but if I had to choose, I would have to say I’d like to be able to fly. Cars and traffic drive me crazy and I don’t like long rides, so flying would be perfect.

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

If I knew how bad my old camera was I would have bought a new camera before I took almost 400 pictures because I had to take them all again. The new camera is a huge improvement.

Hide the pickle ornaments

We drive around the neighborhood and look at lights and drink hot chocolate

We have Santa come every Christmas Eve to hand out gifts to all of the kids in the family. A tradition started when I was a child.

We go for a walk every Christmas Eve and Santa always comes while we are on our walk! My favorite is when it snows on Christmas Eve for our traditional walk.

From Omaha, NE, Jenny R sells her vintage and handmade jewelry in her Etsy shop BlackMagicStudio.  Read more about her here on Promo Junkies of Etsy:

How did you first get started on Etsy?

I first learned about Etsy from a girl in a silversmithing class I was taking. My boyfriend’s sister-in-law has a shop, so she taught me all the ins and outs so I could start selling my handmade jewelry. I was very excited to find out I could sell vintage too!

What is your inspiration for your shop?

The inspiration for my shop is the idea of making life just a little more beautiful.

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

I have two shops, and it would be very hard to pick a favorite. And truthfully, if I really could I would probably keep it for myself. I am particularly fond of this one though

necklace

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

When I’m not creating (or doing homework), I can be found crocheting (more creating), camping, kayaking, hiking, surfing the internet, or snuggling kitties.

List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

Three of my very favorite Etsy shops are aKNITomywww.etsy.com/shop/aKNITomy, zavesfeltwww.etsy.com/shop/zavesfelt, and AddSome Stitcheswww.etsy.com/shop/AddSomeStitches.

How would you describe your work style?

My work style regarding Etsy is basically I do what I can when I have time. I’m also a college student, usually employed part-time, and always involved in community service.

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

Hmm… one superhero power… I would have to go with telekinesis. It would seriously freak people out if I could move things with my mind, plus I’m kind of lazy. I think it would make cleaning the house a LOT easier.

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

I wouldn’t do anything differently in opening my shop. Making mistakes and learning things slowly are valuable parts of the process.

Meet Michelle Weigel, from Hays, KS.  Read more about her and her husband here and visit their store at GrapevineCeramicsGft.

How did you get started on Etsy?

We were looking for a venue to sell our products outside of the craft show circuit. We found that we were competing with mass produced items more and more and we were giving away our hardwork, ideas and pieces of us just to compete. When we found Etsy we had an “ah ha” moment here was an outlet that thought like us. They valued handmade and vintage items.

What is your inspiration for your shop?

Items in our shop are inspired by our surroundings and life experience. We live in mid-western Kansas in a town of about 30,000 in the middle of the State. It’s small enough to have a hometown feel, to raise a family and big enough to get a taste of “city life.” Two miles from our house we can walk in fields of sunflowers and wheat. The golden hues against a deep blue sky is reflected in our Sunflower pieces. Dragonflies dance in our front yard every summer and are the inspiration for our dragonfly pieces. Our collective memories as children help drive the ornaments that we offer.

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

All the items in our shop have a personal connection to who my husband and I are. But my personal favorite would have to be the Sunflower vase. It is one of the first items that we worked closely together on, from conception to final product it is a true team project.

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

If we’re not creating, we’re out on the motorcycle. It provides an opportunity for us to talk with no interruptions. It also allows us to just bask in the sunshine and our surroundings.

List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

Who has only three? As part of the Etsy community you make friends and their shops become your favorites too. Outside of our close circle I would have to say that these are the three that made us stop in our tracks recently and say WOW!
The colors and color combinations that designer Shari Kalb uses are exquisite – www.etsy.com/shop/ShariArts?page=2
The unique use of discarded automotive accessories by 8 Mile Creek Designs gives a rustic and whimsical feel where ever you use them – www.etsy.com/shop/8milecreekdesigns
The League of Uncommon Creatures is just that – whimsical, uncommon characters that we would love to have in our home –www.etsy.com/shop/uncommoncreatures

How would you describe your work style?

Organized CHAOS – We get into a groove and have a plan to get things done and then something derails it. Be it our home life, our jobs or special orders. It seems we never get to complete things in the the order we want, but it all gets done somehow.

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

After talking it over with the Mister – I would have to say the ability to time travel. Not necessarily to change things but the opportunity observe and learn about culture and events that shape our world in the first person.

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

We would have read the Etsy Seller Handbook and became part of the community sooner. We were naive and thought that if we placed items in a storefront that they would magically fly off the shelves. In real life it doesn’t work that way. Until we started developing personal connections within the Etsy community and actively promoting our shop and others we didn’t have a chance. After the first year and a half with one (yes I said one) sale we were thinking about dropping it. But we sat down to analyze what we were doing wrong and saw that we missed the boat big time. We read the Etsy Seller Handbook, we discovered teams, and social media. We became part of the community. Our sales aren’t on “rockstar” level but they are comfortable. We can keep up at a manageable pace, we’re right where we want to be right now.
