Meet Tina from CreativityUnraveled

1. How’d you get started on Etsy?
I had heard about Etsy years and years ago so when I began designing and handbags I figured this would be the perfect place to open a shop!

2. What was your inspiration for your shop?
I was in my final semester of college and Christmas was approaching ( I graduated in Dec instead of May). I have 5 younger sisters and wanted to get them gifts that were quality, but with my income being almost non existent at that time I decided I was going to sew them gifts. I searched Pinterest and found a great fabric store and spent all my free time at my sewing machine. After that I was hooked on creating all types of bags. My shop was created just a couple months later and has been growing since then!

3. What’s your favorite shop item and why?
I love all my products, but right now my favorite item is my Simple Tote Bag because they are perfect for any occasion. They can be an everyday bag, a bag for a dinner with the girls or even a date night.

4. How do you unwind when you’re not creating?
I love to hang out with my husband and our yorkie, we usually get some food and watch whatever TV show we are hooked on at the moment (right now it’s The Blacklist!)

5. What’s your favorite kind of cupcake?
Chocolate with a cream cheese frosting!

6. What was your worst job?
I worked at Toys’R’Us for a couple months and I was incredibly bored! Maybe it was a slow season or just not a fast enough pace position but I just never had enough to do.

7. What’s your favorite cartoon as a kid? As an adult, if you stumble upon it while channel surfing now would you stop & watch?
I would say Rugrats had to have been my favorite cartoon. I don’t even think they have reruns on anymore but I think I would at least watch a couple minuets and reminisce.

8. What’s your fantasy job?
My fantasy job is one where I work for myself, so my shop on Etsy is fulfilling that aspect of it. Eventually I would love to be able to go back to school and get my MA in school counseling and work at an elementary school.

9. Do you have a secret guilty pleasure?
Yes! I have no problem admitting it either! I love Hanson’s music! One of my all time favorite artists!

10. List 3 things you are so obsessed with it is torture to ever say no to.
1. Karaoke
2. Thanksgiving Dinner
3. My Dog

11. List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

2. www.etsy.com/shop/PattersonPaper?ref=pr_faveshops
3. www.etsy.com/shop/BitofWhimsyCrochet?ref=pr_faveshops

12. Do you have a favorite author? When you read, do you use a proper bookmark, bend the page, or grab anything handy to mark your place?
Mitch Albom! I love my Kindle because I can store sooo many books at once and it weights less then one book would!

13. If money was no object and you can live wherever you want, where would that be?
Disney World! My husband and I are obsessed! We go every chance we can!

14. What is your best childhood memory?
Apple picking when I was super little!

15. How would you describe your work style?
I love to put on some music or a good movie and just work for hours! Oh, and don’t forget the coffee, and it’s not just the caffeine something about the taste of it gets me motivated.

16. If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?
Super speed like The Flash then I wouldn’t have to fly on an airplane! I could get anywhere super fast!

17. Who are your heroes?
My mother! She was a single mom and had her own business so she could be there for all of us girls whenever we needed her!

18. What would you do if you won the lottery?

Invest and buy a brand new house!

19. What was the last movie you watched? Was it good?
Gone Girl, yes very creepy but great! The book is great too!

20. If you knew what you know now, when you first opened your store, what would you do differently?
Pictures, descriptions and tags are soooo important!

1. How’d you get started on Etsy?
A friend wondered why I wasn’t on Etsy yet since I sold via email and facebook and word of mouth. I told her there were too many jewelry designers on Etsy and she said not to worry about the competition since I already have a following. So, I opened my shop.
2. What was your inspiration for your shop?
Don’t really understand the question

3. What’s your favorite shop item and why?
My fav is the pearl and crystals crocheted necklace that can also be a multi wrap bracelet. All white and clear or in colors, still my fav!
4. How do you unwind when you’re not creating?
Watch tv, movies, in love with hgtv, read an piddle on the computer
5. What’s your favorite kind of cupcake?
Devils food cake with white icing (not the mamby pamby whipped topping but the kind made with real sugar!
6. What was your worst job?
Cleaning houses when I was in high school. It took me over 40 years to realize the reason I was so bad was because I was a big picture person and not a detailed person. Don’t hire a house cleaner if they are not detail oriented. Just sayin
7. What’s your favorite cartoon as a kid? As an adult, if you stumble upon it while channel surfing now would you stop & watch?
I never watch them cuz I thought they were too violent even then.

8. What’s your fantasy job?
Hmmm, never thought of that one. Let me think, I am very pragmatic, practical and in the moment. I really don’t know of one, oh , wait, testing out cruises! I love to cruise, yep, that would be me, a tester for the suites on different cruise lines at least 10 times a year!

12. Do you have a favorite author? When you read, do you use a proper bookmark, bend the page, or grab anything handy to mark your place?
Too many to name, really but dean koontz is my longest fav. Anything I can find to mark the page but hate to dog ear though I have been known to in a pinch.
13. If money was no object and you can live wherever you want, where would that be?
It’s not the money, it’s the family thing but Alaska is my fav state.
14. What is your best childhood memory?
15. How would you describe your work style?
Eclectic? Not really sure if I even know.

16. If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?
I Dream of Genie (can you tell I don’t like being boxed in) she could just cross her arms and blink and everything would be done and she could be were she wanted in a blink of the eye.
17. Who are your heroes?
18. What would you do if you won the lottery?
Pay off house and all bills. Buy new car. Give to my church. Build my dream house. Quit my job and hire a full time housekeeper so I never have to worry about picking/cleaning up again (read about worst job, remember!)
19. What was the last movie you watched? Was it good?
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, yes, cuz I love those types of movies. I think I need to watch it again to totally understand it but not before I read the book series.

Meet Alison from OnceUponACraft4U on Etsy!

How did you get started on Etsy?

I got started on Etsy after my daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, trying to figure out a way to earn extra income to cover our unexpected medical expenses. My sister was also pregnant at the time, and showed me all the crochet items she had purchased for the baby. It was then I told her that the next items she wanted, she should tell me and I would make them for her. That got my creative juices going and I started crocheting away designing new things and the next thing you know, my shop OnceUponACraft4U was born, perfectly combining my love of crochet into something that could bring us extra income.

What is your inspiration for your shop?

My greatest inspiration would be designing things for my 1yr old niece, and just born nephew. I love to crochet to turn old patterns into trendy new fashion pieces.

What is your favorite item from your own shop and why?

Round Nautical Rug OOAK Sailboat Large Nursery Decor Thick, Soft Crochet 36" Area Rug (Sea in Popsicle Blue) Many Colors- Mat Housewares

My favorite item is my sailboat rug. I was inspired by a 1950’s doily sailboat pattern, and worked long and hard to make it into a novel area rug.

How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

I would say that creating is my time to unwind. I have a very busy life with new medical equipment to figure out, like her Dexcom Monitor and Insulin Pump, and all the associated Dr. Appointments. I also am a substitute teacher part-time, and I go to college at ISU to get my Master of Art’s in Teaching. So when I have a moment to research ancient patterns, and craft them into something new, that is the time I am able to unwind the most!

List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.
I love the home decor you can find in Ever and Oak.
www.etsy.com/shop/EverandOak?ref=teams_post
I really love bright colors, and so fell in love with this shop’s artwork
www.etsy.com/shop/nJoyArt?ref=teams_post
And my last favorite shop would be My Little Pixels because I love the airiness of her designs, on iphone cases and jewlery.
www.etsy.com/shop/mylittlepixels?ref=teams_post

How would you describe your work style?

I like to get things done as quickly as possible. I also love to work with customers to make their dreams come true, it’s always a good day when a customer comes to me with an idea and I can craft that into a piece they will love as much as I loved to make it for them!

If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and why?

I would love the superhero power that lets you freeze time. That way I could focus on my crochet for hours and not get tired and never have to put my crochet hook down!

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently in opening your shop?

The one thing I realized now that I didn’t know then is the importance of good pictures. When I opened my shop, I put up my items and waited for a sale that seemed like forever to come. Then I read on etsy other sellers asking how someone took such a good picture. The seller’s answer was that they hung the item in their bathtub and then lay in an awkward position on the floor to get the best angle and lighting. Through experimenting I learned that taking pictures on my kitchen table gives me the best light.

1.How’d you get started on Etsy?
Since I was a little girl, my mom helped me developing my manual skills: I built nativity scene houses with medicine boxes, I prepared ” collage” and many other crafts. So, in my life, in addition to my job, I always expressed my creativity by working dried flowers , leaves and other natural elements, to create home decor.
I filled up my friends’ home – and mine too! – with my wreaths and decorations for many years. When relatives and friends could not stand any other of my gifts ….. they suggested me to sell them! So I opened my shop Ghirlandiamo at the end of November 2013 and I’m here, on Etsy, trying to seduce you with my creations!
That’s life: what was just a hobby, now is a job and I dedicate most part of my days to it.

2. What was your inspiration for your shop?
I live in Salerno, a not so big town in South Italy, near to Naples, Amalfi, Positano (some of the most beautiful places in the world), Paestum and Pompei, with their great Greek and Roman ruins, testimonials of the most ancient civilizations.
The sea, the sky and all around me in the the nature have strong colors.

I think all that certainly influenced the way I am , that, in turn, is deeply expressed in my works .

Made in Italy is appreciated all over the world and I think my creations represent the Italian taste through my modern and personal style, the one of a smiling, friendly Italian woman.

www.etsy.com/it/listing/170909171/ghirlanda-fucsia-idea-regalo-made-in?r…

3. What’s your favorite shop item and why?

I can’t have a favorite item; for me it should sound as asking which is my favorite son : it’s impossible.
But I can say that, among all home decors, I prefer creating wreaths and I can show you the one, I believe, most represents my creativity and my way to read the nature.

www.etsy.com/listing/170901309/extremely-particular-home-decor-made-by?r…

4. How do you unwind when you?re not creating?
I like reading and take care of my plants (I’ve a green thumb!). It’s also very pleasant taking a walk on “Lungomare”, the long beautiful promenade on the sea.

6. What was your worst job?
I was willing to create a black and white wreath, something minimal and rarefied, but the result was not what I expected! 

7. What’s your favorite cartoon as a kid? As an adult, if you stumble upon it while channel surfing now would you stop & watch?

All those by Walt Disney, even today!

9. Do you have a secret guilty pleasure?

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, and it isn’t secret at all!

11. List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

Oh, it’s so difficult listing only 3!
www.etsy.com/shop/ChimericalDragonfly
www.etsy.com/shop/SusanSorrentino?ref=l2-shopheader-name
www.etsy.com/it/shop/oldandnew8?ref=pr_shop_more

12. Do you have a favorite author? When you read, do you use a proper bookmark, bend the page, or grab anything handy to mark your place?

I haven’t a preferred one, but on this occasion I wish to suggest a book every woman should read: In the Beginning by Catherine Dunne, a woman who suddenly is compelled to face her awareness.
Oh, it’s horrible bending the page! I have a little collection of nice bookmarks!

13. If money was no object and you can live wherever you want, where would that be?

In Italy …in spite of all our problems!

15. How would you describe your work style?

Of course I can describe my style only as I see it, from my point of view.
I think my style can be defined essential, simple but smart, sophisticated but warm.
www.etsy.com/it/listing/170871952/ghirlanda-idea-regalo-made-in-italy?re…

16. If you could choose any one super power, what would it be and why?

Only … a magic wand!

17. Who are your heroes?

Women and mums who every day are engaged in working at and out home, often also dealing with bad situations in jobs, just because raising children , women who manage family, home, job and much more always smiling : daily heroes!

18. What would you do if you won the lottery?

No problem: I never could win as I never play!

20. If you knew what you know now, when you first opened your store, what would you do different?
I’d have saved a lot of time and energies! When I opened my shop on Etsy, I was in a hurry to insert all my items: I was wrong!
Creating beautiful things is not enough, it’s only the starting point.
It’s likewise important studying SEO, web marketing, how Etsy
works, how to use facebook and other socials.

First of all it’s necessary to visit forums and read, read and read about different topics, to avoid mistakes and get suggestions from older sellers.

I’m inspired by urban designs, natural elements, and a blend of classic and bohemian styles. I named by shop for my hometown and favorite source of inspiration, Chicago.

My mom – she raised 3 kids alone and was creative and positive every single day. To me, that is a super-human feat.
